In this teaching, I will present scriptures on who the Holy Spirit is, what are some of His characteristics, and why we should allow the Holy Spirit to operate fully in each one of our lives.
I will begin by utilizing scriptures to explain these points. The Bible says, "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you "(John 14:26, NIV). According to this scripture, Jesus was promising the disciples that the Holy Spirit would help them remember what he had been teaching them; in addition, the promise ensured the validity of the New Testament. The disciples were eyewitnesses of Jesus life and teachings, and the Holy Spirit helped them to remember without taking away their individual perspectives. The Holy Spirit has been sent in the same way to help us in the same manner. As we study the Bible, we can trust Him to plant truth in our mind, convince us of God's will, and remind us of when we stray from it (Life Application Bible, 2005).
The bible also reveals to us how the Holy Spirit can teach us. The scripture says, "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will as the Father, and he will give another counselor to be with you forever-(John 14:15-15, NIV). This scripture is speaking about how Jesus was going to be leaving the disciples, but yet He would remain with them. Jesus was speaking about the Counselor-Spirit of God himself-would ascend (20:22). The Holy Spirit was also poured out on all the believers at Pentecost (Act 2) shortly after Jesus ascend into heaven. However, the Holy Spirit is the presence of God within us and all believers who has received the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues, and for all believers helping believers to live as God wants and building the Christ's church on earth. With faith, we can appropriate the Spirit's power each day Moreover, the Holy Spirit is known as the Counselor, and it is translated and a combined idea of comfort and counsel. The word Counselor is also translated as the Comforter, Encourager, or Advocate. The Holy Spirit is a powerful person on our side, working for and with us (Life Application Bible, 2005).
What Are The Characteristics of The Holy Spirit
Now, we are going to talk about "What Are Some of The Characteristics of The Holy Spirit" Well, the scripture says, " The Spirit of truth." The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you" (John 14:17, NIV). This particular scripture describes the characteristics that we as believers need to recognize, so that, we can allow the Holy Spirit to operate freely in our lives. The scriptures teach us that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever (14:16); the world at large cannot accept the Holy Spirit, as well as some denominations in the body of Christ; He lives with us and in us (14:26; 15:26); He convicts us of sin, He shows us of God's righteousness, and announces God's judgment on evil (16:13); and He brings glory to Christ (16:14). The Holy Spirit has been active among people from the beginning of time, but after Pentecost (Act 2) He came to live in all believers. Many people are unaware of the Holy Spirit activities, but to those who hear Christ's words and understand the Spirit's power, His Spirit gives a whole new way to look at life (Life Application Bible, 2005).
